Geometric Methods For Analysis, Design, And Optomization Of Fiber
Paths In Tow-Based Composites (2003 FY 18) -
New processes that include novel approaches for considering the geometry of
individual strands of fiber reinforced material throughout preliminary and
detailed design.

Catalytic Oxidation Of Organic Substrates By Transition Metal Complexes
In Organic Solvent Media Expanded By Subcritical or Supercritical Carbon
Dioxide (2000 FY 26) -
This is a significant improvement over both existing homogeneous oxidation
processes that employ organic solvents as reaction media and recently reported
processes in the literature that employ supercritical carbon dioxide as reaction
media. The process is applicable to a wide range of oxidation catalysts and
substrates, reduces the usage of conventional organic solvents, has lower operating
temperatures than supercritical carbon-dioxide based reaction media, increased
oxygen stability in the reaction mixture and enhanced process safety.
Packed
Bed Endothermic Reactor (1993 FY 05)
US Patent # 5,710,356 -
A one-dimensional, heterogeneous model employed to simulate the performance
of a packer-bed flow reversal reactor for the endothermic dehydrogenation
of ethylbenzene to styrene. The catalyst bed is flanked by inert
end sections to prevent the occurrence of the reverse reaction. Ethylbenzene
vapor is added at one end of the reactor while the superheated steam
is added at the downstream location. The flow direction is periodically
reversed by alternating the etnhylbenzene introduction between the
reactor ends and the steam introduction between axially symmetric
locations away from the reactor ends.
